There is no such thing as a bottomless pit. When you suffer from anxiety, depression or low self esteem, life can feel like a bottomless pit. No matter what happens, there is always something to feel bad about. The problems and angst just keep coming and coming. It feels like you are unable to meet the demands of life. No matter how bad things feel, they are not that bad. There is a bottom to the pit. Not only is there a bottom to the pit, the pit isn’t as deep as it seems. There is a big difference between things feeling bad and things being bad.
When things feel really bad, it is important to realize that you can handle any emotion. It is important to recognize that what seems absolutely awful, is only relatively awful. When you believe that every pit has a bottom and a way out, it doesn’t seem so dire when you find yourself in a pit. When you find that you can handle the most difficult emotions, the rest come easier.
Once you see that you can handle your emotions, you also know that you can handle your situations. That feeling in the pit of your stomach is your teacher. Its wisdom is yours.
