One wonderful thing about Zen meditation is the position of your hands in your lap. Your thumbs touch lightly and your left hand rests in your right (or the other way around). Placing your hands in this position brings your focus to your diaphragm, which helps you breathe from your belly. Also, it lets you forget about your hands. It is a dignified position, so when your hands are like this, you don’t feel like you are putting on any airs, or doing anything particularly spiritual. You are just sitting, with your hands in your lap, centered, grounded, enlightened.
